Biography CLOSE THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

American actor Jim Haynie has made a career out of small roles in television shows and films. The Virginia native got his start in Hollywood when he landed a minor role as a prison guard in the 1979 classic "Escape from Alcatraz," a film starring Clint Eastwood based on a true story about a group of inmates who try to escape the prison island. In 1983, Haynie portrayed a member of the U.S. Air Force in the "The Right Stuff," an Academy Award-winning film adaption of Tom Wolfe's book of the same name about the astronauts involved in the first attempt at manned spaceflight by the United States. In 1986, he had a small role in screenwriter John Hughes' romantic comedy classic "Pretty in Pink." Haynie again performed alongside Eastwood when he took the role of the heroine's husband in the 1995 romantic drama "The Bridges of Madison County," which starred Meryl Streep and Eastwood as lovers involved in a short-lived extramarital affair. The actor has also appeared in many television shows, including portraying a judge in the legal drama "L.A. Law" in 1989, a sheriff in the action series "Quantum Leap" in 1992, and an ophthalmologist in the medical drama "ER" in 2008.
