A leading man for Constance Talmadge, Harlan was the nephew of actor Otis Harlan and was signed by D.W. Griffith following a successful career on stage. During the 1920s Harlan was known to spend a lot of time partying and was quite the ladies' man. After seven marriages and retiring in 1944, he became a theatrical agent and restaurateur, retiring in 1946 and moving to Sacramento. Married to actresses Marie Prevost, Florence Hart, Emily McLaughlin and Helene Stanton.
