Film doctor Bacon

As noted in your notes, Mr. Bacon was one of the better studio directors. In a recent viewing of "My Darling Clementine" (1946) on DVD special features it was mentioned that Zanuck wanted closeups of Miss Darnell and some other changes. He brought in Mr. Bacon to film the changes for him, to John Ford's chagrin. Both versions are fortunately on dvd, restorations too. Several directors were called in by the studio chiefs to "pump up" the work of lesser filmmakers or ill major directors. Bacon, Walsh, Wood, Wellman and even Mr.Ford did this often and always uncredited. Unfortunately for Mr.Bacon, he had no major award-winners or box office smashes to his otherwise workman-like roster.
