Somehow forgotten all her great performances. TCM does not list her Academy Award nomination for So Proudly We Hail! She returned to the stage in the 1950s to tour in Waltz of the Toreadors as the long lost love of the lead. I happened to be in the office of the Theatre Guild when she showed up for an appointment in 1956 and she was stunning. She seems to be remembered more for her jewelry but she left more money than any one else at the time of her death to NYU! Yes, she was born as Paulette Levy, and in the movie Chaplin her heritage is an important point. I did see her last movie, Time of Indifference and she isn't photographed very flatteringly in that strange internationally cast movie that is dubbed poorly in English.
Paulette's New Blog
Paulette Goddard is one of my favorite actresses! She was beautiful, smart, and talented. I decided to start a blog about Paulette because there are no web sites dedicated to her. Please take a look..... http://paulettegoddard.blogspot.com
She deserves much more appreciation than she gets. She could hold her own with the likes of Joan Crawford and Norma Shearer, but I think she was more down to earth than them; at least that's what comes across to me. Perhaps she just wasn't as overly ambitious as the big stars of that era. She will always be one of my favourites!!
A Month of Movies for Paulette Goddard!
I would like to see Paulette Goddard as a star of the month! She is so beautiful and versatile with a sparkling wit! I would love to see some of her films like:"Hold Back the Dawn" "So Proudly We Hail" "I Married a Soilder" "The Lady has Plans" "Kitty" "Suddenly It's Spring" "Unconquered" "The Great Dictator" and "Modern Times!" Please a month for star Paulette Goddard! Many of her films are unavailable on VHS or DVD!
she was a greatly talented, beuatiful, versatile
actress whom seems to be overlooked for some odd reason. As with the others, here, I loved her in Kitty with Ray Milland. She was absolutely believable in that role. I, also, enjoyed her in 'Hold Back the Dawn'. Would love to see Kitty, once again. So difficult to find, anywhere.
A classic woman...classic star
I love Paulette Goddard...I have since I can remember. And I completely agree with Kitty being an amazing movie...so much so that I watch my copy constantly!
Great actress with much more potential

The 1st time I saw Paulette Goddard was in Chaplin's "Modern Times" and she was fabulous! Something beyond words, but she had it. I don't believe she was given a good opportunity to keep working after the 1950's, the scripts seemed all B-rated, and all the films she was in, she carried her own, and to my amazement, many other people thought so as well as I have read. But I have to say, at least she was given a chance to be in some fairly good movies for a length of time and that she did have an impact on the business (because there have been many others who were in just a handful of films and just faded out of sight even though they had talent). So the main complaint that I do have is that I cannot get some of her best work on film (or DVD), for example, "The Cat and the Canary" with Bob Hope and "Kitty" both of which I have only heard she was good in, I have never seen either. Every film she has been in that is available to view, I have seen and she does hold her own, and in some instances carries the movie. She would be an actress that I would go back "Somewhere in Time" to meet. Please show KITTY and THE CAT AND THE CANARY.
Kitty is the Best!
I totally agree with Tina. Kitty was her best movie and I have searched forever to find a copy. Can't even remember the last time I saw it. I grew up in LA during the 60's and they used to play all her old films non stop back then. Maybe someone will read this and release it or at least show it.
Paulette Goddard's finest film, KITTY and you cannot buy it, and they never show it on TV!..............What a shame!!! So much for it being her best film!
