been a fan of tcm & old films all my life... (lived across the street from edison's Black Maria as a child--perhaps that's where it all started) if there's one name that appears more than any other in the credits of tcm's line-up, it's cedric gibbons. the man is responsible for Hollywood's 'look' for many decades. he did more to bring the art deco style to America than any other artist, and is rumored to have designed the Oscar itself. if you need any convincing, simply scan his filmography--it's truly amazing all of the films this man contributed to. I recently noticed he was the art director for 'the Unholy Three', an early silent classic with lon chaney, a very young victor mc laglen, and the great harry earles. for fans of tcm, take note of the credits to your favorite movies... you may be surprised how often you see the name cedric gibbons listed. as a rough estimate, I'd guess mr gibbons contributed to the production of 75 - 80% of ALL the movies on tcm. an unsung Hollywood hero if there ever was one. (I was slightly disheartened to come to this page--and find NO fan comments! hence, my contribution...) cheers, and happy viewing!
