Multi Talented Mitzi Gaynor
When Mitzi Gaynor's movie career was over, she was one of a few movie stars that could turn to stage work, as she did all her own singing in films unlike most who were dubbed. (they stopped making her kind of musical films, could not have see her in the "sound of music" or "my fair lady"??) she went on to be even more successful and carved out a fabulous career appearing in Las Vegas and touring canada and the usa, she was one of the top box office draws in american show business, she also made a string of tv specials that were nominated for 17 emmy's,. her shrewd husband of over 50 years guided her career and she is now a very rich lady, she is also president of the american dancers society, which does a lot of charity work for ex dancers who have fallen on there luck. Mitzi is a triple threat entertainer of the 1st degree and at 85 is still strutting her stuff.
Mitzi Gaynor was absolutely perfect for the role of Nellie Forbush in South Pacific. I can't think of another actress who could have played the part any better, except for maybe Mary Martin from the Broadway version. Still, I think Mitzi put her whole body and soul into this role and character. I've always thought she was so cute and lively, and fell in love with South Pacific because of Mitzi. I haven't seen her in a whole lot of other movies but would love to. Hint hint, TCM? She's been happily married to the same man since the mid-1950's, a Hollywood miracle, and maybe her marriage and family meant more to her then her career, which I admire, because her filmography isn't that long. Just wanted to say how perfect she was as Nurse Nellie Forbush.
Golden Girl is one of mine and my girlfriends favorite Mitzi Gaynor films. We have searched for a copy and am wondering where we may purchase one or more copies. This is one of several w e would like to share with our daughters. Thank you, Marilyn

Here is a incredibly beautiful, very talented lady who made some superb movies while revealing a "wow" enthusiasm for acting and outstanding dancing abilities. She is the quintessence of feminine pulchritude and the best legs Hollywood has ever seen. Like fun movies, well acted with the best in dancing and a gorgeous lady...watch Ms. Gaynor in anything. REP
