    Nancy Gates, my Aunt Nancy, was not an only child. My father, her brother Pete, born Virgil William Gates Jr., was eleven years her senior. Her stage mother was the former Ruth Elsie Nichols. Dad became Nancy's chaperone and roommate in Hollywood after Ruth returned to Texas. When Dad married Mom, whom Nancy had introduced to him, Nancy roomed with Maureen O'Hara for a time. Just thought you'd like to know. Nancy is a wonderful aunt, and I shall never forget the laughter she and Dad shared whenever they got together...

    Nancy Gates grew up in Denton TX with a stage mother or all stage mothers: Gladys, who sought fame and fortune for her only child. Nancy did several films as teen and did significant work in several respected films, ie "Some Came Running". She was usually at the top of the second tier of actors. In the 60's she guest starred in many tv series, always with top billing as guest star. She married an agent, Bill Hayes, raised her family and lived happily ever after.
