Dobbs and Curtin meet up in Mexico, and go to work for a contractor, MacClane, who takes them away to remote site and tells them they will be paid when the job is finished. When they are finished, they return to town to find MacClane to get their wages. MacClane gives them a few dollars, and says he'll just go to the bank and pick up the payroll for them. Dobbs and Curtin then meet up with an old prospector, who claims the hills are still full of gold, and if they can get the cash, he'll go with them. They eventually get the cash from MacClane after a little "persuasion", and all three set off for the hills as good friends, but will they return that way?
Cowboy Ross McEwen arrives in town. He asks the banker for a loan of $2000. When the banker asks about securing a loan that large, McEwen shows him his six-gun collateral. The banker hands over the money in exchange for an I.O.U., signed "Jefferson Davis". McEwen rides out of town and catches a train, but not before being bitten by a rattler. On the train, a nurse, Miss Hollister, tends to his wound. A posse searches the train, but McEwen manages to escape notice. However a mysterious Mexican has taken note of the cowboy, and that loudmouthed brat is still nosing around. Who will be the first to claim the reward for the robber's capture?

Running the household is Juliana's severe niece, Tina, who mistrusts Venable from the first moment. He realizes all is not right when late one night he finds Tina, her hair unpinned and wild, at the piano. She calls him Jeffrey and throws herself at him. The family priest warns Venable to tread carefully around her fantasies, but he wants the letters at any cost, even Tina's sanity.

Michael hires Sam Cotton (Bill Elliott as William Elliott) to protect his pony line from hostile Indians and the attacks of the gang of Peter Marquette (Joseph Schildkraut), owner of a stagecoach line who fears losing his contracts to the pony riders. Sam finds himself in a difficult position because Michael's wife, Cathy (Gail Patrick), is in love with Marquette. Sam, despite several attacks by Marquette's men, organizes the pony line. The ailing Michael is shocked to death by his wife's confession of hate, and Marquette tries to destroy the ecpress stations. Sam, with the aid of a friendly Indian tribe, finally wipes out Marquette and his gang, and returns to St. Joseph and Ann, the woman he loves.

The Cisco Kid (Duncan Renaldo) and Pancho (Martin Garralaga) stop the marriage of Rosita (Cecelia Callejo) to Harris (Roger Pryor) by claiming that Cisco is already married to her, and exhibit a borrowed child, Nancy (Sharon Smith) as proof. Cisco carries off the furious Rosita, but finds, when returning Nancy, that her real father (Walter Clinton) has been shot to death. Assuming responsibility for Nancy, Cisco sends her and Rosita to stay with Tia (Eva Puig), and he visits the local padre (Fritz Leiber). Harris and Conway (Anthony Warde) scheme to get custody of the child, so they can obtain the money left to her by her father. As part of the plot, an actress (Vicky Lane), comes to town posing as the girl's mother, accompanied by her maid Jeanette (Jan Wiley). Rosita, jealous of the attention Cisco is paying to Jeanette, tells Harris where the child is being kept in hiding. Cisco sends Pancho to the sheriff (Bud Osborne) with a message promising to give himself up for "kidnapping" Nancy if the sheriff will bring along "Mrs. Page" and Conway.

The Cisco Kid (Duncan Renaldo) and Pancho (Martin Garralaga) hold up a stagecoach and kidnap Ellen Roth (Gwen Kenyon). They take the girl, who is wanted on a murder charge, to the mission where Padre Angelo (Pedro de Cordoba) will look after her. She tells Cisco of a mysterious Doctor Willis(Richard Gordon) who called on an aged woman she had been nursing and gave her an overdose of sleeping pills. Convinced that Ellen is innocent, Cisco sets out to prove it. He goes to Bill Hastings (Norman Wills) where he makes a deal to turn Ellen in if Cisco gets part of the money Hastings will inherit when she is convicted. With Ellen safely in jail, Cisco and Pancho force the local newspaper to run a story saying that Doc Willis has been apprehended. Hastings makes another deal with Cisco to kill Ellen before she testifies against Doc.
