Set in New York City in the 1950s-60s, a young man wins a bundle in the lottery and tries to get his father out of debt with loan sharks.
An elderly dance master directs the classic ballet "Giselle".
The leader of a ballet company in Italy attempts to make a film of his greatest work. In preparation for the film, the dance instructor is working with a talented, but untried young dancer. It is through her that he hopes to re-ignite the flames of passion and renew his flagging career.
The story of two women whose lives are dedicated to ballet. Deedee left her promising dance career to become a wife and mother and now runs a ballet school in Oklahoma. Emma stayed with a company and became a star though her time is nearly past. Both want what the other has and reflects back on missed chances as they are brought together again through Deedee's daughter who joins the company.
A young ballerina is torn between her art and her romance with a young composer.
Berit is a young woman with problems. She is suicidal and depressed. Since it has been impossible for her to live with her mother, she has spent many years in institutions.
