Ron Ely began his film career in the 1950's with appearences in such films as South Paciffic, in 1960 he was one of the stars of the Aguanauts TV series, cast as a villian in the first Tarzan series on TV in 1966, when Tarzan Mike Henry dropped out due to injuries, Ely was moved into the lead role, as with Henry, Mahoney, Scott he played Tarzan more as writer Burroughs had created Tarzan, a well spoken man who has returned to the jungles were he grew up, At 6ft 4" Ely fit the role well, and did all his own stunts, but like many after Tarzan flm producers stero typed him, In 1975 He became the only actor to portray pulp fiction hero Doc Savage in a film, Ely went to host a game show, the Miss Amercia pagent twice, in the 1990's he would appear as a villian on the new Tarzan TV series starring Wolf Larson, and on a episode of Sheena, he is retired from film now and has become a mystery writer.
