Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald are a great pair and their movies are lots of fun. Nelson Eddy was the better singer and his movies without Jeanette are also very good. I wish Nelson was star of the month some day and ALL of his movies could be shown. His talent and musical genius is under appreciated today. If I could win some kind of lottery and be a TCM guest programmer I'd ask for those Nelson Eddy movies that are rarely seen. Let's have more Nelson Eddy on DVD!

This film appeared unannounced on TCM Canada, and I re-echo the message of Mary a couple of months ago, namely;-- it would be so pleasant if you would issue the complete set of the Jeannette MacDonald/Nelson Eddy musicals. I viewed a live performance of ROSE MARIE last night Fancy, I saw Nelson Eddy last performing at the Imperial Room in the Royal York Hotel TORONTO in 1961. My goodness, it was over 50 years ago! Yrs, Richard.

Their songs are like a poetic symphony. Their genuine love and affection makes their movies immortal. When will they be in color and HD? The world is being deprived of such talent and beauty.

My mother got me hooked on Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald when I was a girl, today I still love Nelson Eddy and all his movies. Miss him very much, I am sad that we cannot get his movies on DVD. Come on distributers all his movies are classics and wonderful I think we have waited long enough!

I simply love all of their movies but the singing is so romantic. I could listen to them sing all of the time. Please play more of their movies. When you listen to them sing it just takes you away in a calm surrounding.

  • Why are not more of the Nelson Eddy films shown?

    • 2008-07-30

I think I have posed this question before, but did not have a response. Many of the films from the Nelson Eddy area are shown over and over...some really not all that great. So I am really puzzled why more of the Nelson Eddy films are not shown. Surely I am not the only "older generation" who would love to see some of his old movies; if for no other reason than just to hear him sing. He also is quite good in his delivery of his lines. Better than a lot of the other stars that are shown all the time. Come on TCM!!!!!! Let's shown more of these grand old films.

  • COME ON TCM! LET'S HAVE MORE OF NELSON EDDY!

I love to sing with Jeannette McDonald and Nelson Eddy! My mother used to play the piano of their music and passed it down to me. Let's let the younger generation hear and see them! Please close captioned the movies with them in them so I can enjoy the plot. PLEASE!

Was just browsing and saw that this movie will be showing on TCM in March. Nelson Eddy will most likely not have much screen time, but know his fans will be glad to see even a little bit of him.I wish TCM would show more of his films at times other than late night. When you are 80 years old one does not stay up that late at night. Daytime would be a great time to show some of these old favorites. Thanks for all the wonderful old movies shown on TCM. P.S. I just ordered "Dancing Lady". I have all the movies he ever made. Wish TCM would put them on DVD's.

  • Let's keep Nelson Eddy's memory alive

His acting ability has been called some unflatering things, but I don't think it is any worse than some of the other actors of that period; and the delivery of his lines,I think, are excellent. Eddy's singing voice, his boyish good looks will make most peope overlook any of the other so called faults. If the facts is Rich's book are true, my heart hurts for both he and Jeanette. What a bittersweet life it must have been. I just hope TCM will continue to show their films so future generations who enjoy vintage films will be able to see these wonderful movies he and Jeanette made together Keep up the good work TCM.

A very hard worker... Great on the concert stage (where he did not have to act). Super pitch and sang extremely well in duets. He adapted well after his movie career as a night club performer. I personally saw him 5 times in 1967 before his death in Florida.

  • A Perfect Leading Man

Nelson Eddy, as much as Jeanette MacDonald, made their films together the enduring classics that they are today. While she was beautiful, charming and talented, he brought the couple its personality and created that charisma that we still adore today. I have never really understood why many acting critics have described him as "wooden" when, in fact, he was the stable center around which Jeanette could dazzle him. And that voice and his perfect harmonies! What a pleasure to listen to 70 years later! I, for one, miss this type of movie star; he was a man who was completely moral in his professional as well as his personal life. How I long for the good ole days with Nelson crooning and Jeanette swooning!

Nelson Eddy has been one of my favorites since I saw my first Nelson/Jeanette musical way back in the 80s. I was a wee lass of 12 at the time and fell instantly in love with those sapphire blue eyes of his. And I have never swerved from my interest in him, in Jeanette, and in their films. I think I love them today, more than I did in 1987 ! So, here's a big "thank you" to TCM for featuring Nels and Jen as their stars of the month for March. That was a wonderful surprise !!

I first saw Nelson Eddy on the Turner Classic Movie Channel last month. I don't think he was particularly handsome, I don't think he could act especially well, but he has more screen presence that anyone I've ever seen in a movie. And he had the most beautiful pure baritone voice that I can recall ever hearing. When he is on the screen I cannot take my eyes off of him. He is the most attractive man I've ever seen. (And he was gone long before I was even born.) I wonder if he was one of the actor/singer/celebrities for which the phrase "star" was created. I would watch any movie that he was in, anytime.
