Biography CLOSE THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

Known primarily for her career in pop music, Australian singer and actress Kylie Minogue began acting at the age of 11, appearing on Australian soap operas like "The Sullivans" and "The Henderson Kids." By the mid 1980s, Minogue was trying to launch a singing career in addition to her acting. She met with little success until she was cast as Charlene Robinson on the Australian drama series "Neighbours." Minogue⿿s character became progressively more popular with viewers; when her character got married, the episode attracted 20 million viewers in Britain alone. Soon Minogue⿿s music took off; she had a hit single in 1987 with ⿿The Loco-Motion,⿝ and her career took a new turn. She never abandoned acting, however. She had a role in the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme epic "Street Fighter," and a cameo in the 2001 film "Moulin Rouge!." She also made appearances on popular British shows like "The Vicar of Dibley" and "Doctor Who."
