The wonderful Marie Dressler

I saw last night "Emma" starring Marie Dressler. I was so touched that my heart broke at her performance. PLEASE see this film if only for Ms. Dressler's performance. This woman will break your heart; she is so natural in her lines and performance; the female version of Spencer Tracy. God Bless you Marie Dressler and thank you for your wonderful performance; you will live forever in this wonderful movie.
Marie Dressler was impressive.
I watched two of Marie Dressler's Movies yesterday. "Emma" and "Politics". I had never seen this actress before, and I have been watching TV for 50 years. I was so impressed with her and her movies that I had to look her up and find out when another on of her movies was going to be playing. I would love to see all of her movies, and I hope that TCM will play them all one day. Thank you.

I am so impressed with Marie Dressler's tenacity in the peforming arts. She had expressive eyes, and a wonderful stage presence. I am so glad I learned more about her life.

I watched three of her movies on TCM last night and was sorry I couldn't stay awake for the fourth (had to get up for work). I loved each one. I very seldom laugh out loud at movies but I found her facial expressions and physical antics hysterical and her characters are lovable.
Marie Dressler---what a gal!!!!!!!!

Marie Dressler was fantastic in Dinner at Eight. I am very, very lucky to have a copy of the video. I was born in 1933 and the movie came out in 1934. When she is on the screen, she commands the audience. I have seen the movie several times and I never tire of seeing Marie Dressler. She doesn't just play the character....... she IS the character. The one and only Marie Dressler

On the day that I write my comments about her, Marie Dressler is the most popular search on TCM.com. I say that is great because I've feared that this unlikely movie star might be forgotten. Born in the same small town as my grandfather, Dressler's greatest fame and achievements came near the end of her life. And because of "Dinner at Eight" and especially her scene with Jean Harlow near the end of the movie, she will always be remembered. Another notable performance was in Greta Garbo's first talkie "Anna Christie". Her appeal was considerable in the early thirties and only death and the arrival of Shirley Temple could knock her off the top of the box office. One of the all time greats, more people need to know about Marie!
Marie Dressler, top box office early 30's
- Pamela Groat
Marie Dressler was THE top box office star for several years before her death. She was a great performer. I know I haven't seen her in all of her movie performances. I've seen "Tugboat Annie", a film in which she's a small town banker, who saves the bank by impoverishing herself and the classic of classics, "Dinner at Eight". I believe she performed the only "triple-take" that I have ever seen in that last film. She had heart. I do believe you could find an image of her for this site although she might thank you for NOT having one.

Marie Dressler...is a perfect example of a true Hollywood movie star, her comedy is unlike anyone else in the movies. Min and Bill is one of my favorite. Her pictures make me watch TCM as often as I do ...Please play more of her movies so that other can love her like I do... because if your felling down..trust me her pictures will make you forget your problems...Marie Dressler thank you.
I thik that her talent was so natural that you felt that she was real not acting, and I also love Bette Davis, Kay Francis, and Ruth Chatterton. I want my son to becme acquainted with these tremendous stars.
Not enough of a great actress.

She was a housekeeper when she wasted those precious years. Francis Marion gave her back her correct place on the golden screen. She was one of the most natural actresses of any time. There will never be a woman with this gift. She just wasn't around long enough to living talkies to make her extroidinary presence known to audiences. Please show her pictures as often as possible. She was a queen.
You gotta love her!
I think that Marie Dressler was the best female actress of her time. She was very endearing in her roles. She was'nt a looker by the standards of the day,but the looks that she gave were priceless! A gem in my book!
Ugly duckling with a heart of gold.
