Had first plays produced in New York at Herbert Berghof Playwrights Foundation
1973:
Made foray into TV writing for Cass Elliot's CBS TV special "Don't Call Me Mama Anymore"
1978:
"Bent" has first production at the O'Neill Theatre Centre
1979:
First stage success, "Bent"; debuted in London with Ian McKellen and on Broadway with Richard Gere
1980:
Moved to London
1991:
Had London success with play "When She Danced", starring Vanessa Redgrave as Isadora Duncan
1992:
Adapted the novel "The Summer House" for British TV; received theatrical distribution in the USA in 1993
1996:
First original screenplay produced, "Alive and Kicking/Indian Summer"

Wrote the screen adaptation of his play "Bent"
1999:
Penned the one-person show "Rose", about an elderly Holocaust survivor; opened in London starring Olympia Dukakis

"Rose" transferred to Broadway
