Although she made progress with Hollywood productions like the Mark Wahlberg crime drama "Four Brothers" (2005) and the short-lived sitcom "Hot Properties" (ABC, 2005), Vergara's brief fling with controversial megastar Tom Cruise that same year garnered the lion's share of her press. More frequent film work followed, with comedic appearances in features like "The Smurfs" (2011) and "The Three Stooges" (2012). Defying the misogynistic assumption that beauty and belly laughs did not mix, Vergara continually surprised her critics and thrilled her growing legion of fans.
