Marlene Dietrich was a gifted actress--look at her films again, if you have any doubt. She was a talented musician and gave riveting performances in her films and on stage. She was a romantic, but also an intellectual, who could keep up with the likes of Eric Maria Remarque, Orson Welles. Ernest Hemingway and Josef von Sternberg. I love her for her androgyny, her feminine allure, her power, her logic, her humor and her beauty, each of which she brings to her film characters. I don't think that there was any civilian who worked harder to please her 'boys' and bring them comfort during WWII. I would give anything to have known her.

Marlene is one of the most beautiful women to have ever graced this earth. In addition, she was not afraid to be true to herself, which was (and still is, sadly) very uncommon. Talented, gorgeous, smart, witty... What an idol. What a lady.

No need to even mention her first name, Dietrich is a style, a set of unforgettable characters (like 'Agent X-27' in "Dishonored"), a dare (as in "Morocco" dressing in a man's white suit & kissing a woman flirtatiously), temptrous, deep voice carrying melodies with a specific type of singing-talk, bedroom eyes able to evoke lust and a marked accent that distinguishes her unnique speech style. Dietrich needs no other name because Dietrich is an attitude that won't quit.

From Marlene Dietrich's earliest lusty films to her more serious more recent dramatic roles, all are well worth watching. So much is made of the younger Dietrich classics. I'd like to see more broadcasts of her later films that continue to reign among the top 100 all time films ever made.

I 'discovered' Marlene Dietrich in the 90's. I then quickly became a huge fan, not just of her talents as an actress, or of her great beauty. She was a fascinating person, with many contradictory traits and an amazing amount of intelligence to go with her legendary beauty. Her acting ability has been a source of debate for years, which is silly, when all one has to do is watch her films to see for oneself that yes, she could act. Having seen all her starring roles in sound movies, I consider her my all-time favorite actress.

she was a larger than life personality but a great actress as well and more versatile than one would guess at first glance what a life and what a woman she is also one of my favorite singers

I can't believe that no one has posted a review yet about Marlene Dietrich! She was an amazing lady. I highly recommend the documentary called Marlene Dietrich-Her Own Song. It shows you what a unique person she was.
