Wetbacks (1956) as
About to lose his sole possession, his boat, for lack of payments, ex- Coast Guardsman Jim Benson takes a gamble on a fishing charter and removes the boat from the dock despite a sheriff's seizure order. But Jim finds himself with a loudmouthed drunk, Shanks, and his companion, Sally. To avoid paying for the fishing excursion, Shanks stages a fight with Jim and, when Jim puts him ashore at a small Mexican port, Shanks takes off, stranding both Jim (who is out of gas as well as cash) and Sally. The two begin to become "friends in need" and are put up by Alfonso, local innkeeper who is a friend of Jim's. But the town is the base of operations for a gang, led by Bodine and Ortega, who smuggle illegal aliens into California for a profit. Learning of Jim's plight, they offer him money to run 'just one' shipment of these 'wetbacks' across the border - then blackmail Jim to continue working for them. Sally tries to persuade him to tell the police, but he is too afraid and plans to run away, so Sally reveals a secret which she intends to make him want to stay and fight to clear his name...

The Roar of the Crowd (1953) as Waiter

He persuades her to marry him on the promise that he will quit after racing once in the Indaanapolis 500, but he is injured in a qualifying race and goes to work as a spark plug salesman for Mackey (Minor Watson), an old family friend. He is a failure at selling but Marcy changes her attitude towards his racing, and he qualifies for the 500. Race-car drivers Johnnie Parsons, Duke Nalon, Manuel Ayulo (not the actor Manuel Ayuso) and Henry Banks play themselves.
24.
Sweetheart of Sigma Chi (1946) as Maury
The always-welcome Elyse Knox and her All-American footballer turned broadcaster husband Tom Harmon appear together in this film but are not romantically involved, as she is the co-ed "sweetheart" of the title and he coaches the Varsity rowing crew. Some source describes Miss Knox as a B-actress. A more apt and better description would be one that describes her as an Actress who never got out of B-movies. This one is about half plot and half music but the plot is stretched pretty thin to cover 35 of the 75 minutes when it essentially boils down to: a couple of gamblers pressure the local night club(soft drinks only)owner to rig things so the local college rowing crew will lose their upcoming race. End of plot when the cowswain of the home team uses a rabbit's foot to plug the hole the gamblers cut in the bottom of their racing shell. Two of 1945's top hits, "Five Minutes More" and Slim Gaillard's "Cement Mixer, Putti-Putti" are performed, although some people who heard "Cement Mixer" in 1945 are still wondering what it was all about.
