Colder (Walter Abel), Marathon's Mighty Mogul, agrees. Joan Winslow (Susanna Foster), a contract player who has never had a part, is picked to replace balky Brenda Lee (Ann Gillis) in Marathon's monster musical of the year. Tiny poses as a big shot and takes credit for getting Joan the role. They are soon seen everywhere together as Tiny is taking advantage of her publicity build-up for his own gain, until he suddenly finds out he is in love with her and confesses his duplicity. This occurs when Colder has forbid Joan to see Tiny anymore, directing her to only be seen with important people who can help her career, and Tiny thinks it is because she has dumped him. He enters into a conspiracy with Brenda's agent, Mickey Fadden (John Gallaudet), to make Brenda give up her strike and accept the role Colder gave Joan. She does and Tiny is given the role of her leading man. But he is unhappy about what he has done in costing Joan her big chance, plus his old friend, Georgie Clemons (Jackie Searle) who used to play the mean kid in Tiny's films is also replaced. Faced with the taunts of the production crew because of what he helped engineer and broken hearted about Joan, Tiny walks out on the picture, climbs into his automobile and heads for parts unknown. Little Billy, who adores him, stows away in the luggage compartment. Billy, the high IQ kid, has devised a scheme to set everything right.

At the Crystal Palace Saloon, Cisco runs into an old girlfriend, Sally (Mary Beth Hughes), who he once jilted for a tight-rope walker, but she doesn't betray him when the sheriff (Arthur Hohl) and an army officer (Robert 'Buddy' Shaw as Robert Shaw, since there was no other Robert Shaw at the time and this Robert Shaw had no need of the "Buddy" attribute given him by latter-day historians, who can't tell the players without a program and a roman numeral..and quite often not even then),enter searching for Cisco. While Cisco and the easily-forgiving Sally dance, the heads of the kidnap gang, the sheriff, Clark (Edwin Maxwell) and Redge (Don Costello), meet upstairs to discuss the plans for collecting the $50,000 ransom they have on Carlos. Cisco follows the kidnappers after they collect the ransom money, but before he can do anything about it, he is arrested and thrown in jail.

While being questioned at the club, she meets Vance who's investigating the homicide. After Gracie's bungled attempts to solve the case, Vance decides it might be easier to have her working with him. Despite Gracie's "help," the two eventually find the real killer.

Ruth considers it is best for her to disappear before being arrested, but she has become a star in public opinion. Will she get Pete or will she go to prison again ?
Fred Stevens (Johnny Downs), on his way to New York City with hopes of succeeding as a songwriter, meets and falls in love with Edna Baker, an employee in a dentist's office. In New York, Fred meets Paul Sears (William Demarest), a broken-down songwriter, his wife Lucille (Helen Flint) and her gold-digging sister, Eileen Fletcher (Terry Walker.) They are indifferent to him until they discover he has his life's savings with him. Eileen makes plans to marry Fred and ignores her song-publishing boy friend, Joe Hart (Lynne Overman.) Fred and Paul write a song together and take it to Hart, who sees a way to get Eileen off his hands by giving Fred a large advance. Fred, who is completely swayed by Eileen, parts with Edna. Hart continues the advances but when Fred and Paul go to him asking why the song hasn't been published, Hart tells them it isn't any good and he was using Fred to help rid him of Eileen. Fred now realizes he loves Edna. A popular radio singer sees Fred's song in Hart's office and sings it on the air, and it becomes a hit.

The story moves to Hollywood, where, with Gracie around, kidnappers get kidnapped and the chatter between her and George Burns (George Burns)even takes a few satirized shots at Filmland, in addition to their usual unusual routines. Guy Lombardo, top-billed on the ads and posters with Burns and Allen but not the cast listings, and dance team Frank Veloz and Yolanda, fill in where needed between the cracks of the mostly on-the-fly plot, and they don't seem to be taking their gigs all that seriously either. Burns & Allen Radio fans, the few of us that still remember "Radio", will love it,while others are likely to give it a "say what" or 'duh", especially if they were raised on television comedy of the past 20 years.
