BIOGRAPHY

Leading figure of post-war French theater who contributed to the scripts of several noted films (e.g. "Monsieur Vincent" 1945) and adapted several of his own plays for the screen ("Pattes blanches" 1949, "Caroline cherie" 1954, etc.) while several of his plays ("Waltz of the Toreadors" 1962, "Becket" 1964) were adapted by others. Anouilh also directed two films: "Le voyageur sans baggage" (1944), from his acclaimed play, and the noirish "Deux sous de violettes" (1951). Father of actress Catherine Anouilh.
