Classic and Enduring Beauty
- RT
- 2013-05-18
Second Chance with Robert Mitchum and Fallen Angel with Dana Andrews, the first an average noir, the latter an excellent one, both showcase Ms. Darnell's presence as an actress, which derives not just from her beauty but her command and fearlessness. But living in an era when actresses supposedly defined by "beauty" were marginalized as they entered their mid-late 30s and therefore disposable, she apperently succumbed to the despair of life as a former star. But her legacy lives on in film and tv alike. Just caught an episode of Wagon Train from 1958 (The Dora Gray Story) which served as a reminder of what I and the other commentators on this site have tried to convey about Ms. Darnell

Just watched TCM presentation of several of Linda's movies and enjoyed watching her grow as an actress. Thanks to TCM for enlightening me on this beautiful talented woman.

Her Film Noir Roles

I would have to say for Linda Darnells' beauty she is able to move her roles in Film Noir very well. Two films she was in were possibly as fine as we will see. "No Way Out' is one and "Second Chance" is the other. I was fascinated by the way she handled her roles. To die at 42 is tragic, other fine roles where to follow and we lost a fine actress.

What a Woman!

I believe Linda Darnell is one of the two most beautiful women (the other being Loretta Young) ever to stand in front of a camera. What a shame the studio bosses weren't smart enought to have given her a longer carreer and us more of her films.

Gorgeous actress!

One of the all-time great beauties of the silver screen, and an excellent actress who almost earned an Oscar nomination for her supporting performancein A LETTER TO THREE WIVES (1948). She will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by many classic film buffs. Although she usually worked at Fox, I wish TCM would present some of her films so she'd gain a wider audience.

Smoldering Siren
- Damon

Linda Darnell was one of Hollywood's ultimate sirens, with sultry, dark features and a low, husky voice. Such was her magnetism that she made it difficult to watch anyone else while she was on the screen.
