Dorothy Dandridge Film Career
- Charles Lawrence
- 2011-01-17
Dorothy Dandridge was one of the most stunning actresses that have ever appeared on the silver screen. It would be nice if some company would prepare a film package of her films in a box set such as The Decks Ran Red, Malaga, Bright Road, Murder Men, and the Harlem Globetrotters. These are treasures that would show her development as an actress. The Halle Berry movie on her life has created an interest in her film career. Someone should really put this package together in her honor. I guess we will never see Porgy and Bess again. This is a great loss to the film industry that the owners of this print are not willing to release this movie for purchase.

Dorothy Dandridge was one of the most stunning actors of her time and under-rated because of her race. She was an amazing woman and her legacy will never be forgotten. "If I were white, I could capture the world." ~ Dorothy Dandridge

The brief bio lists "Carmen" as her major starring role and yet it is missing from her filmography. This is a disservice to her film career.

Dorothy Dandridge was the 1950's era's most beautiful woman and it's most famous african american actress. There is an unexpected tanginess to her acting that is almost unprecedented in cinema, in the decades since, others have sought to imitate it but it has never been duplicated. Years after her death dandridge still stood out no other black actress has yet risen to her level of stardom and accomplishment. She was the only black actress to achieve both film stardom and a nomination for best actress academy awards. If you honor dorothy than you honor every black american.
