Roy Robert Damron was born in California in 1921 the son of Joseph Leroy Damron & Emily Brown. Roy was a “jitterbug” dancer who, with his dance partner Choppy Seed opened the 1938 “Rendezvous Swingeree”, a seven day, 24-hour Big Band dance marathon at the Rendezvous Ballroom on the Balboa Peninsula at Newport-Balboa Harbor, California. He was named Look Magazine’s Swing Dancer of the Year in 1938. He appeared as a marine, uncredited, in the 1951 film version of SHOW BOAT as a “chorus boy”. He also played a sailor in the Thanksgiving show sequence, again uncredited, in SOUTH PACIFIC (1958) and AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS (1956). Roy was still participating in Swing Dance events as late as 2003. He lives in California.
