  • Watching Laird Cregar in THE LODGER...

...I am reminded of my brother, also a stage and film actor, also talented, handsome, and versatile, and who has also struggled with his weight throughout his career. Cregar logged in an impressive array of credits in his brief life and career; one can't help but want to know more about him. I hope an enterprising researcher will add more to his bio.

Was Cregar actually playing the piano in "Hangover Square?" It certainly looked like it!

  • Laird Cregar was born in 1914!

An egregious error continues to be perpetuated that Laird Cregar was born in either 1916 or 1917. Both his death certificate and his tombstone certify that he was born in 1914. Seemingly some writers want to promulgate the myth that he was incredibly young at his death. Certainly age 30 is sufficiently young to maintain that same aura of tragedy that surrounds this unique actor, whose life was cut so short, with so much unrealized potential about which can only be speculated. So, come on, Leonard Maltin and the rest of you: get his birthdate right!
