Biography CLOSE THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

South American-born actor Santiago Cabrera originally planned to pursue a career as a professional soccer player prior to discovering his love for acting. Classically trained on the stages of the U.K.'s Drama Centre London, Cabrera first appeared onscreen in British television productions like "MI-5" (BBC, 2002-06). He entered the U.S. market as Octavius, the successor to Julius Caesar (Colm Feore), in the big-budget historical miniseries "Empire" (ABC, 2005), before landing a prime spot on the much-hyped superhero adventure "Heroes" (NBC, 2006-2010). Although Cabrera's character - the drug-addicted, future-painting Isaac - was killed off near the end of the show's first season, the actor went on to laudable work in such projects as director Steven Soderbergh's revolutionary biopic "Che" (2008) and as brave Sir Lancelot in the U.K. fantasy series "Merlin" (BBC, 2008- ). Efforts like "The Life of Fish" (2010) and the made-for-cable biopic "Hemingway & Gellhorn" (HBO, 2012) provided the actor with opportunities to display his formidable talent in lower-key dramas. More than just a pretty face and equally adept at period epics or nuanced character studies, Cabrera remained a young star on the rise. ...
