Married to writer Ida May Park, De Grasse began his career in the theatre as a paint boy for the Boston Grand Opera House. He directed a number of silent films and directed stage plays for UCLA. He moved to Hollywood in 1910 and played in many action films and directed such stars as Lon Chaney and Bessie Love. He was one of the organizers of the Motion Picture Directors Association and the Motion Picture Relief Fund. De Grasse died enroute to a hospital after his body had been found on a street corner.
