Actress Katie Holmes achieved fame as the fresh-faced star of a popular teen television drama and later became a tabloid staple as the wife of one of Hollywood's most polarizing figures. Already a teen model, Holmes scored an early success in director Ang Lee's somber family drama "The Ice Storm" (1997) before landing her breakout role as the adorably naïve Joey Potter on "Dawson's Creek" (The WB, 1998-2003). Attempts to segue into a feature film career during her "Creek" tenure yielded mixed results, with efforts like "Go" (1999), "Wonder Boys" (2000) and "Pieces of April" (2003) being among the high points. Nearly overshadowing her most prominent role in the superhero blockbuster "Batman Begins" (2005) was the news of her sudden marriage to Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise, a man 16 years her senior and a lightening rod for controversy, due in part to his association with the Church of Scientology. After more than two years away from acting, during which time she gave birth to daughter Suri Cruise under the constant scrutiny of the tabloid media, Holmes returned to work in 2008. A series of little-seen projects eventually gave way to such high-profile TV and film projects as "The Kennedys"...
