First garnered attention for "The Brendan Voyage", a musical suite for uileann pipes and orchestra inspired by historian Tim Severin's attempt to retrace the sea voyage of St Brendan
1983:
Debuted "The Pilgrim", a suite for orchestra, soloists, pipe band and choir, at the Lorient Interceltic Festival
1985:
Premiered "Granuile (Grace O'Malley)", written for singer Rita Connolly; a song cycle about a 16th-century female Irish seafarer

Commissioned by the Derry City Council to compose "The Relief of Derry Symphony", a commemoration of the tercentenary of the 1689 siege of the city; premiered in 1990
