BIOGRAPHY

Began his career as a portrait photographer in 1912. Clarke designed a battery-run camera motor which became the industry standard during the silent era, was a pioneer of matte photography techniques, and developed a reputation for location work under difficult conditions. He was nominated four times for an Academy Award.
