A 19th century con artist rises from medicine shows to Wall Street.
Injured scientist Eric Godfrey asks his protege to give him a fatal dose of opiates to end his misery. When he dies the doctor is accused of murder.
We follow the training and adventures of a team of young federal anti-gangster agents, Mal Stevens, Van Rensseler, and Tex Logan. After foiling a kidnap attempt on socialite Eleanor Spencer (an old flame of Van's), Mal falls for her; but they're at odds over her belief in the innocence of her chauffeur Joe Keefer (whom Mal knows was involved) and her young brother Buddy's desire to join the federal agents. This conflict climaxes with the pursuit of an Ohio bank-robbing gang.
An unhappy executive gets a job as a butler on a lark, only to fall for the family cook.
The famous western fiction writer Bob Morris arrives at the Henderson ranch. He quickly realizes the hanging, runaway horses, and the shootout are fakes for his benefit. But when a real robbery takes place he thinks it's another fake.
Chris Morrell, the guardian of Indian girl Nina, is helping her track down her missing father. Until he is found, she is the heir to a rich oil field and in danger from Sam Black, whose gang is out to steal the lands. The outlaws knock out Chris and dress him in the clothes of a wanted bank robber. When Chris awakes, he discovers that now he must continue the quest while running from the law himself.
