Biography CLOSE THE FULL BIOGRAPHY

Bud Spencer is one of the few established movie actors who was also an Olympian. Born in Naples in 1929, Spencer (whose real name is Carlo Pedersoli) was an accomplished swimmer, becoming the first Italian to swim 100m in less than a minute. He also won a silver medal at the 1951 Mediterranean Games, and participated in the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki. Around the same time, Spencer launched his acting career, and would eventually strike up a successful working relationship with actor Terence Hill. The pair spent decades working together in countless "spaghetti westerns," including 1967's "God Forgives... I Don't!" and 1970's "They Call Me Trinity," and going all the way up to 1994's "Troublemakers." In addition to acting, Spencer wrote and produced several television movies, and if his resume didn't already sound varied enough, he also earned a law degree, became a pilot, started a successful air-mail company, and late in life, began a career in Italian politics.
