A shining light in film and on the stage.
- Aanel Victoria
Charleson's Hamlet onstage (1989) is widely considered to be the definitive Hamlet. His embodiment of two real-life men of the cloth -- Olympic runner Eric Liddell and Gandhi confidant Charlie Andrews -- are luminous and breathtaking and moving. His stage career, bolstered by his love of Shakespeare but also well-infused with musicals and modern plays -- is well-remembered in the UK. Thankfully, the world will have his outstanding performances in "Chariots of Fire" and "Gandhi" -- two Oscar-winning Best Pictures -- forever.
