Tom Amandes began acting at an early age by performing at home with his 10 siblings and in school productions. After graduating from the Goodman School of Drama at DePaul University, he began performing on stage at the Court Theatre and Body Politic Theatre in Chicago. He made his television debut in 1987 on an episode of "Sable" before his breakthrough on the crime drama series "The Untouchables" in 1993. The role led Amandes to more guest appearances on TV with spots in series like the sitcom "Roseanne," "The Pursuit of Happiness," and primetime drama "ER" later in the 1990s. He began to earn more significant roles in mainstream Hollywood features like "Brokedown Palace" in 1999 before furthering his career with more appearances on television in the early 2000s. In 2003 he landed his most notable role, as Dr. Harold Abbott on the Emmy-nominated drama "Everwood." He played Dr. Abbott until the seriesâ¿¿ end in 2006, while also getting the chance to direct two episodes, and continued to act in television throughout the late 2000s and into the 2010s. His more recognizable roles on television during that time came in series like: "Eli Stone," "Big Love," and "Parenthood."
