Bushman and Gary Cooper. In the late 1920s, Carewe was at the top of career and received a percentage from a number of films he directed. On Broadway Carewe directed 1927’s ‘The Heaven Tappers’ with Florence Gerald and Frank Marlowe. Carewe died from a heart ailment in his Hollywood apartment and was found dead in his bed.
