Louis Calhern-always dynamic !
- Roy Earle
Louis Calhern, who often played a conniving but likeable character(eg, wicked uncle Willie in high society), lent so much to the many movies he played in through the years. From the thirties into the fifties Calhern was there with a sharp and articulate tongue. Every line distinct, his presence was dynamic, distinguished and his acting superb. His skills spawned the silent era, cinema and the theater an unusual combination. Finding this in today's world would be a rare triumph indeed.
I was watching TCM the other morning and came across "The Magnificent Yankee" w/ Louis Calhern what a delightful movie, and he played it so well. It was made in black and white, but one could hardly notice because it was such a wonderful film. So much history about the man Louis played. I couldn't walk away from the movie, just loved it so very much. I've seen him in other films and always a delight to watch him. He was classic Hollywood.
LOUIS CALHERN -- Star

Mr. Calhern was fabulous. I am watching The Asphalt Jungle now and watched The Prince And The Pauper a few weeks ago. I thoroughly enjoy watching this actor. He was brilliant. Will you all do a marathon on him, please? Thanks TCM.

LOUIS CALHERN Star
- Danny McCormick
In his lifetime the brilliant actor, Louis Calhern strolled onto many studio sets with his larger than life presence (like John Wayne)and was instantly recognized. He had what was known as star quality and played many outstanding roles. Passing away in 1956 he left a legacy of top notch movies and will live on in them. A silver screen star.
