A Fine Actor
Burton had the classical background of many British Actors, with Shakespeare and stage plays. His career was focused upon straight dramatic roles, and he was up to the task....with typically bright, vital, and compellingly believable performances. One can always have preference for one performance over another...or, for one actor over another, for that matter...but his work with Elizabeth Taylor was iconic...as his work with Peter O'Toole in "Beckett". Here was an actor who put his heart and soil into his acting.
the greatest actor who ever lived
- Nick the Barber
At once, you're struck by the voice, then the gritty but good looks, then you learn of his alcoholism. You take a second look and there you have a survivor, a real actor
I think he's a brilliant actor. He has such a beautiful voice and accent. Brilliant actor.
THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER LIKE HIM.
- EVELYN PARKER
I have loved the voice and the man since I was a teenager. He had the most sexy voice that could cause a tingle to go up your back just listing to him speak. As a young actor his face and voice made the audience feel like he was living through the action on screen, not just acting. I have missed him in the movies. Although; I do not think he would still be acting in the movies of today. There are no good parts for an actor of his worth and talent in movies now. It is a shame!
One of the great actors of our age...
I've noted that the TCM piece speaks of Burton being a talent wasted...I have to strongly disagree since six Oscar nominations is nothing to sneeze at. They are right about Burton's voice. He is legendary for being able to even make reading the names out of a phone sound memorable and mesmerizing. That's a rare gift that we will get to enjoy often in his films.
My favorite actor of all time!
Richard Burton is probably best known for being married to Elizabeth Taylor....twice. What people should know is that he was an amazing actor. "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" and "Anne of a Thousand Days" are just some of many amazing performances. He was nominated for seven Oscars in his life, but never won. What a disgrace!
