Joe E Brown Films, Particularly Bright Lights 1935
- Karen Ricker Rinehart
Absolutely the BEST! I have been a collector of Joe E Brown Memorabilia for years and I must say that Mr. Brown is sincerely exceptional in all respects. From Vaudeville, Broadway, The Movie Screen, Radio and TV, Baseball Enthusiatist, all around family man, superior entertainer for WWII troops, and more, Joe has given the gift of laughter to so many. Those qualities are not well matched by others in his field, then and now! Bright Lights a fabulous film bringing out the Burlesque qualities in Mr. Brown, reminiscent from his early days in Vaudeville. A very touching story with that "Joe E Brown Spark of Comedy" and humor. The sentimental touch in the ending scenes bring out a "rare" glimpse of Joe's ability to turn off the comedy and turn on the emoiton in his need to be with Fay, played by Ann Dvorak Joe should be recognized more in the Movie Industry for his films. Though Joe was modest about his acting abilities, he acting was and always will be hard to match.
Bright Lights (1937)
I don't watch a lot of classical movies but I got caught up in this one on TCM and loved it. The story is pretty simple but this Joe E. Brown is fantastic. The things he did in the way of dancing and crazy stunts was way ahead of his time and you can't stop staring at his face because everything looks out of proportion but interesting. I learned that he died about 37 years ago but I hope to find other things he was in but I'm not overly hopeful. It's an entertaining movie to watch and that's from a guy not easily entertained.
Joe E. Brown was one of the greatest comedic talents in Hollywood History! He was an outstanding athlete, acrobat, he could sing and dance, excellent acting and hysterical comedian. Everyone I know who lived during the 30's and 40's all say they adored him and saw everyone of his films countless times. I want to learn all I can about this amazing performer!
Is it true that he requested any movie he headlined, be destroyed at his death?? Loved watching his movies growing up.

You have shown some of Joe E. Brown's movies the last few years but now it is time to show some different ones (from the mid 1930's to 1940's). He was a great comedy talent and would love to see more of his movies!

I would love to see the movies starring Joe E. Brown that I saw on TV in the 1970s. Two are scheduled to be shown this month, but they are not among the best in my opinion. I have suggested a couple of titles(Polo Joe, and Fireman Save My Child), but there are at least two others that are great too. I don't remember the titles, but one is a western and in another he is on a college track team. These are all VERY funny movies.
