One of the Best Character Actors in Film History

Roland Young is best known for his role as the hen-pecked husband in "Topper." His deadpan humor and silent suffering he puts into this role is hilarious! He utilizes the same type of humor in countless other roles, notably as Katharine Hepburn's uncle in "The Philadelphia Story." It's when he's paired with Billie Burke that he is the most humorous; his subtle, quiet humor paired with her flightiness makes for some of the best moments in 1930s comedy. I'd recommend "The Young in Heart," in which Roland Young plays a grade B actor pretending to be a retired army colonel. Billie Burke plays his scatter-brained wife. There's a scene when he and Billie are singing a song from one of their old plays. Roland Youing's monotone voice and Billie's falsetto one make for a laughable performance! If you want to immediately get in a good mood, watch a Roland Young picture. He's not well-remembered today, but after seeing him perform, you'll wonder why he isn't!
"Roland Young is tooooo funny!"
I'm not a critic or some kind of analyst on movies. I just know what I like. Every time I watch "Topper", I notice something different. I love the part when he starts to run and his wife tells hime no running. He looks like he just can't get a break.
