Dean White, the veteran director of such TV shows as the highly-acclaimed "The Shield" and the procedural drama "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," is also a successful producer and occasional actor. White started out in the early '90s as a production assistant on the detective series "Reasonable Doubts" and soon worked his way up to a producing position on "Chicago Hope," the award-winning series centered on a group of skilled but dysfunctional doctors at a high-pressure Chicago hospital. He served as a main series producer on "The Shield," starring Michael Chiklis as corrupt cop Vic Mackey, and directed numerous episodes, including the pivotal segments "Exiled" and "Man Inside." White worked as a director-for-hire on several prime-time series, including "Men in Trees," about a relationship expert (Anne Heche) who moves to a remote Alaskan town, and the Texan football and family drama "Friday Night Lights." Between 2000 and 2001, he produced over 20 episodes of the Emmy-nominated "The District," about the efforts of a former NYPD cop to clean up crime-ridden Washington, D.C. White has also written for and produced the short-lived series "Past Life," which followed the unorthodox methods of a reincarnated police detective, and helmed an episode of the nervy cop drama "Detroit 1-8-7."
