BIOGRAPHY

An esteemed member of Max Reinhardt's theater in Berlin, Wegener lent his massive bulk to an array of stage classics before making his screen debut playing dual roles in "The Student of Prague" (1913). In 1914, he co-wrote and starred in "The Golem", the first of his three adaptations of the mystical Jewish tale. Wegener directed several films through the 1940s and was awarded the title 'Actor of the State' for lending his weight to several Nazi propaganda films.
