  • Bobby Van was a great dancer

    For as tall and lanky as he seems to be, Bobby Van had great moves. He looked like he was taking up the entire screen with the length of his arms and legs moving quickly and gracefully, taken his height. He did great on the steps of the college building in The Affairs of Dobie Gillis. I don't know why this was the first movie I've even encountered him in as an actor. He only lived until he was early 50's.

    Watching Bobby Van dance put Astaire to shame. His timing was Rolex, while Astaire was Timex. I guess lack of good looks and agent contribute to the oblivion of a brilliant artist. The dance routine in, “Small Town Girl,” should lead any commentary on the choreography of cinema dance.
