The only review I have to offer relevent to this movie is my discovery of Alida Valli. It was this movie earlier this year that I was stricken by her beauty & talent. She also is known as just Valli. This was another discovery of David O. Selznick's where beauty and talent were complete & equal . The scene that really sticks with me is where Gregory Pecks' character confronts here in the jail(he "in the film" has fallen for the Valli Character. The way she glares at him during their dialogue was captured brillantly by the photographer. The only other scene I can remember that comes close to that shot is Scarlett O'hara(Vivien leigh) glaring down @ Rhett Butler from the wagon on the road to Tara after the burning of Atlanta when he tells her he is leaving to join the boys in gray. The photographer captures light from her eyes like they are on fire. Valli didnt have the fire in the eyes but she had the fury...and that wonderful accent that adds to her intrigue. I wouldve never guessed that accent to be Italian. There's just something about those raven-haired european actresses. Ok..call me a pig..but Im right.
