  • TCM Celebrity Cruise

Because we are such avid TCM fans and of the older generation of viewer, my husband and I cruised to Cozumel in 2011. I was very satisfied with our accomodations and all. My husband, however, was not a happy camper. He tried to be obliging because he knew I wanted to go on the cruise. Well, one night while having dinner, Ernest Borgnine happened to be passing through the restaurant. We leaned over in an attempt to get closer to one of our most favorite actors. My husband extented his hand to the actor and commented on how well he looked and Mr. Borgnine said " Hey, you're all right too! with a hearty handshake. OMG!! What a grand impression this small incident made on my husband. He has said, "It made the whole trip worthwhile! Mr. Borgnine came from humble beginnings, never forgetting his heritage. He served this country in the armed forces and was proud of it. He was thankful for his successes. An honest, humble guy that any average person could relate to even with all his celebrity.

I don't understand. I have tried to look up my favorite actor and actress biographies and I can hardly read any- thing. The pages are typed over type-written lines of other information or titles. Why are these pages dis- played in such a manner? There is a clear block asking for contributions to tcmd. Would the page be clear and legible if I sent in money for the network?

  • Ernie what a surprise!

In my usual Tv remote launching I always start with the TCM channel first(501); Ernie was on with Robert for his private screening telecast tonite (Monday Jan 26,2008). Shoot I thought I missed it on the first run. Being a fan of the classic channel; I knew it'd be played again later. Of course one of my favorites was on next 'Marty'(as in TCM fashion runs the private screening's star's movie). I've watched that one on Demand so many times and tend to watch it if I'm scrolling thru the menu line up movies. It was so nice to see Ernie; I felt after watching his screeing he is Ernie to us; not Mr. Borgnine or Ernest. What a terrific man; so full of life great behind the screen stories and lively! He didn't speak ill of anyone; not even Ethell. I'm 49 and know Ernie from first McHales' Navy; then got to see his real character movies by following my other classic favorites: Ms Bette Davis Private Affair (w/ Debbie Reynolds)that one needs to played allot more often; From here to eternity w/ Burt & Monty;not to mention my Hubby's favorites; Wild Ones & Dirty Dozen. Ernie was just charming; open; at ease thru the whole interview. My husband and I know of his living in our Northwest area traveling with Wife Tova in their motorhome. We look for him and his home on wheels for a glance and hopefully an autograph.

Earnest Borgnine had a very good friend, His name was Frank Dutra. He lived in Island,Ca. He and Earnest would hit all the local establishments in the delta. They always left some great stories,at the place's they stopped. I worked with Frank on a sidedraft dredge the Alemeda on the sacramento delta, he told stories of the two of them in the Navy durring WWII. They were the best of friends, I can say i had a drink with both of them.
