Spencer Tracy is to me the finest film actor of all time. Mr. Tracy's performances in Guess Who's Coming To Dinner, Judgment at Nurenburg are masterpieces of film acting. In a great career, Tracy was with Clark Gable MGM's greatest male star and co starred with Gable, as well as legends such as Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball, Frederic March, Irene Dunne, Burt Lancaster, et al. Spencer Tracy's greatest co star was Katharine Hepburn, and his closing speech in Guess Who's Coming To Dinner is the finest piece of film acting ever. Ms. Hepburn justly won the Oscar for her beautiful performance in that film. It has been reported that Mr. Tracy gave his legendary speech in Judgment at Nurenburg in one take and was given a thunderous ovation. A great Star.

A more dedicated actor were be difficult to find. His ability to dominate any scene is rarely surpassed. Mr. Tracy even comfortably excelled in the assembled cast of It's a Mad, Mad World.

  • On the TCM scale of "The Great: spencer Tracy"

(*-Indicates OSCAR) Strange yet terrific scale put together here. As for the vast majority of his peers *Tracy was & still is by far regarded as the all-time greatest motion picture actor! Emphasis on motion picture. *0livier would hold that honor when it comes to stage. the list of his peers is astounding though. Even George M. Cohan called him the best. Critic's mostly cite *Brando in recent polls. Even the forementioned *Laurence 0livier said he learned more about film acting from just watching him than anything else. Thank You

Spencer Tracy was able to play any role and I think he was at his best with his comedic material. His timeing and facial expression seemed so natural. He was at his best with Kate, however, my favorite was the movie "Mrs Mahoney and Mr Malone" which I saw on TCM. Would you please show it again? Thank you

  • Great actor still living on.

Tracy was great at bringing you into the picture and the characters within. He makes you feel like you are right there. He is so natural at portraying anyone that it hardly even looks like he is even trying. Some people are born for certain things and Tracy was born to bring the pictures he was in to life. Watching him makes me forgot about my troubles in life for awhile and engulf myself in the film. Sadly enough most people have never heard of him but he should be remembered as one of the greats of all time.

  • The "Everyman". His body language said it all

I have two letters from him. I attended his funeral....he was the greatest!!! I love to watch his eyes...especially when he is with Hepburn. And his tongue. Watch what he does with it when he seems perplexed or confused as in the "Stanley Banks" character or as "Adam Bonner". On screen he was so sure of himself, so American. "Livingstone", "Edison", "Father Flanagan" And of course the last chat with Hepburn in that San Francisco house..."Matt and "Christina Drayton" in love all over again.

From the first to the last of his movies, you could never see his acting muscles flex. Every bit of business that he did always looked natural. I loved watching him eat, on screen. He was the greatest actor I ever saw!

I think Spencer Tracy was and still is the most exciting actor to watch and just listen to his voice. There is not a movie I would miss if I knew he was the star. I sit in amzement at his ability to play such a wide range of characters. I can't teyy you how many times I have seen Boys Town. ;He seems to just draw me in to the movie. I admire how he handles himself, holds his head, and you know when he talks he is a real man.

I have watched many movies with Spencer Tracy and I must say he always did a great job no matter what his role was. I especially loved him with Katherine Hepburn. What a great duo. They did their movies with such class! Cheers to both Spencer and Katherine for all the enjoyable movies that they ever made. I wish modern day movies could clean up there acts and go back to the days of classy well done movies without all the violence and nudity etc...Its just not necessary! I dont even go to modern movies because of it. Thank you TCM for at least keeping the good old movies going. keep up the good work! Lynn
