Actor John Toles-Bey was known for his roles on the silver screen. In 1974, he joined Val Gray Ward's repertory company, Kuumba Workshop. In 1985, he wrote (also acted) short film, "Honky Tonk Bud." He formed the political satire comedy team "Strait Up" with Byron Chatman and performed for crowds at Venice Beach, CA. Toles-Bey's career in acting began with his roles in various films like the drama "Weeds" (1987) with Nick Nolte, the action flick "Midnight Run" (1988) with Robert De Niro and the drama "La Grieta" (1990) with Jack Scalia. He also appeared in the Charlie Sheen drama "Cadence" (1991), the Forest Whitaker action picture "A Rage in Harlem" (1991) and "Leap of Faith" (1992). He kept working in film throughout the nineties, starring in "Love Is a Gun" (1994), the dramedy "Angie" (1994) with Geena Davis and the Kevin Costner action film "Waterworld" (1995). In his more recent career, he tackled roles in the comedy "Sour Grapes" (1998) with Jack Burns, "Dude, Where's My Car?" (2000) and the dramatic adaptation "K-Pax" (2001) with Kevin Spacey.
