Gene Tierney:most beautiful 1940's actress
- Michael Shexa
Without a doubt, Gene Tierney was the most beautiful 1940's actress. She was also one of the best. I enjoyed her the most when she was acting with Tyrone Power. She did a great job playing evil people. I saw her once on the Mike Douglas Show and she was very gracious. She was one of the greats. I would have loved to meet her.
Gene Tierney's body of work
Unlike some,I never saw Ms.Tierney as miscast in any film.I guess I'm biased but I could never imagine another in any of her roles. She brought a unique magic to all of her films, even her less acclaimed ones.Underrated? Not to me.I loved her subtle, intelligent performances, sans any overacting or conscious attempt to scene steal. She was a gift to us in film and truly can never be replaced.Along with her ability, she just happened to be,to me,an incomparable beauty.

Ahh the lovely Gene Tierney. Who can forget the first time they saw her in 'Laura?' She was wonderful in every picture I saw her in. Maybe she was cast in some bad movies but I haven't seen her in any of those. Her acting skills were not fully used over her career. She proved what she could do in 'Leave Her to Heaven.' A very complex person she portrayed in that movie. Loved her in 'The Razor's Edge' as well. While the three mentioned movies were probably her best, her wonderful looks and presence made her a standout feature in any movie she may have made.
Introducing Gene Tierney to Young People
When I teach Film Appreciation and Film History courses as an adjunct professor, my screening of LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN is always one of the semester's highlights. My students, mostly in their late teens and early twenties, invariably are intrigued by both the perversity of the main character and the beauty of her portrayer, Gene Tierney. I am privileged to do my part in introducing Ms. Tierney to a younger generation, just as my mother first told me about the greatness of LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN.
all time beauty of film
To my eyes, there never has been or ever will be a woman as uniquely beautiful as Gene Eliza Tierney.
Leave Her To Heaven
I just love this movie! I watch this movie everytime it comes on and set a reminder. Gene Tierney is one hell of an actress and a beautful woman. The character she plays is so different from the movie The Ghost and Mrs. Muir which makes her a unique actress. I have not seen Laura yet but will when it comes on again.
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir
The first time I saw this movie I just loved it! I watch it everytime it comes on and I also bought the DVD. Her character is so different from the movie Leave Her To Heaven which I love to also watch.
Gene Tierney - sexy, superb actress
- Boston Blackie
Having only recently become familiar with the work of Ms. Tierney, I confess to still being in my first ardor! I'm simply mad for her demure yet alluring gracefulness, and for her dignified yet enticing sensuality. Wow! I just finished viewing a half-dozen Rita Hayworth films and thought I'd discovered the ultimate in shimmer and sizzle! Gene Tierney is a stunner who leaves you breathless and wanting more - her reserved manner is so rich and filled with subtleties, man what an actress!

Ms. Tierney was/is my quintessential female: femininity, beauty, charm, grace, style, seductive sexuality . In one word: Allure. Ah, if only I could have only been old enough; fortune enough, to meet her. She is indeed, what dreams are made of... edward
Gene Tierney: First Class Star
- Annie Laurie
A huge talent with gorgeous looks and loads of class to match...three of my favorite movies star this lady: The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Laura and Dragonwyck.
It funny, Gene's Broadway career (she appeared in four plays) were all comedies in which she received great reviews. Her comic talents were not utilized in her film career. I am just wondering out loud. She still had an amazing career.
One of the most talented actresses of the 40's and 50's.
Just finished watching Leave Her to Heaven WOW! Did not realize they made movies like this in the 40's. I heard of Gene Tierney, she was scary in this movie. I could not believe anything so beauitful could be so dark. I would like to see more of this incredible actresses work.
I just watched The Mating Season. Great ensemble acting. Gene Tierney was in my opinion a very underrated actress. The only reason I could come up with is her great beauty.
What a beautiful and talented women. I came across the The Mating Season could not take my eyes off her. I looked up all the movies she has been in wonderful.
Real Life Drama - Reel Drama
Ms. Tierney's life would make a amazing movie. She was a great actress whos reel life does not compare to her real life drama.
I just watch The Mating Season. Tierney was just amazing, great movie, great actress.
Underated Gene Tierney
One of the most uderrated Actresses of the studio era. Most people don't realize Miss Tierney was a Broadway star before her move to films. Tierney was a comic actress before a dramatic one in the movies
Yet unfortunatly she was terribly underated. Leave Her To Heaven is one of my favorites. Gene is just one of those rare findings.
I have seen many of Ms Tierneys films, she was very underrated. I think her beauty was beyond compare. In a short career she has a nice body of work.
Gene Tierny The Most Beautiful Women In Film
- John G
Despite being miscast over and over again, Ms Tierney was able to star in many Classic movies -The Mating Season, The Ghost And Mrs Muir, The Razors Edge, Whirlpool, Leave Her To Heaven, Laura, Heaven Can Wait. These are some of the best movies of Hollywoods Golden Age. This does not include some movies which are not classics but still notable. She was able to accomplish so much even with all of her emotional problems. Amazing!!!!
so much more than laura
- michael york
everyone talks about laura it is a good film but not much of a role for gene the more films i se the more iam impressed with her talent i love her in heaven can wait a complete performance and she was so young she was also evil incarnate in leave her to heaven and villainous but entirely differnet as the vain isabel she is also so beleivable in the ghost and mrs. muir and still so young to be giving such a mature performance and check out whirlpool this may come cclosest to who she was and what she went through i wonder how different her life would have been if she had been allowed to marry john kennedy?
Gene Tierney had natural talent along with beauty.

She had a sad life and it was a shame that Hollywood used her. Laura was one of the best Movies ever made and Gene showed her talent. She had alot of class and working with the Actors & Actress's during the filming of Laura showed. What a good group of people.
