Some sources list Mr. Taylor's birthyear as 1934.
In an interview with Glenn Plaskin in the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS column "Turning Point", Taylor reveals that he was regularly abused as a child by his foster mother and her prostitute daughter and later, less severely, by his maternal grandmother.
"For years, they'd drink and beat the hell out of me. I was the slave, like Cinderella: 'Clean this, do that,' and when the Johns came over, I was forced to sit in their laps. They'd start fondling me and give me $1. I didn't KNOW this was a terrible thing to do to a little boy.
"Then, when the hooker got going and I got in the way, they'd lock me up all night into that black closet with my dog, forcing Tabasco sauce under my tongue, which scared the hell out of me. Year after year, I talked to that dog and lived with my demons," he shudders. (To this day, Taylor refuses to eat spicy foods) --From the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS, January 4, 1993
