Ray Bolger's Think about Oz
Well Ray Bolger was thinking about "The Wizard of Oz" the MGM film in 1939 he was going to play the Tin Man in 1938 and the Scarecrow in 1939. He is freinds with Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale, Jack Haley as the Tin Man and Hickory, Buddy Esben as the Tin Man, and Bert Lahr as the Cowardly Lion and Zeke.

Ray Bolger was in "The Wizard of Oz" played the lovable Scarecrow in all the Land of Oz
In the Wizard of Oz, Ray Bolger (Scarecrow) joins Judy Garland (Dorothy) and begins his quest for a brain. Bolger though, was smart enough to know that the role of the Tin Man, (which he originally signed on to play) wouldn't allow him the chance to showcase his abilities as a dancer. Bolger however, approached producer Marvin LeRoy with his idea to play the Scarecrow. (The Scarecrow may not have had a brain) Bolger and LeRoy however were pretty shrewd! And the rest, as they say, is movie history. As much as I like Buddy Ebsen and recognize his ability to dance, I just can't imagine anyone else playing the role of the Scarecrow. Check out the deleted dance scene (when Dorothy meets the Scarecrow) on the special features disc in the Wizard of Oz box set. Shear genious!
Two For The Show
- William Rankin
I just wanted to say that Ray Bolger also appeared in a musical review on Broadway in lhe late forties entitled Two For The Show in which he did a great dancing number called "Give me that old soft shoe."
I think that Ray Bolger was one of the truly great actors, because he could do just about everything. My favorite movie he did was The Wizard of Oz (of course). I know that his work will never be forgotten.

the most talented scarecrow on oz
Ray Bolger has been one of my favorites forever. Ever since I first seen The Wizard of Oz I thought wow how amazing is he. The scarecrow part was made for him and him alone, I would not have wanted anyone to have had that role. In every movie he was in he was so great. Im so glad he is recognized on TCM.
