ann sheridan day 03/06/2013

thank you to tcm for showing 8 of ann's films today, in particular SHINE ON HARVEST MOON that hasn't been played in approximately 6 years! ann gets overlooked far too often. she had a great rage in her ability to play many roles and I feel Warner Bros didn't take advantage of the talented actress that she was. may we always remember Ann now and in the future. as may have said, she left us way too soon!

ann sheridan make such a great impression on me when i first saw her in "Thank Your Lucky Stars". as years have gone on, i have learned to appreciate not only her beauty but her ability to deliver in a variety of roles. it is sad some of her movies cannot be found on DVD, VHS tape or for that matter on TCM. Navy Blues 1941 and Shine On Harvest Moon 1944 are prime examples of films Ann did & fans, like me, are unable to buy, record or watch. Ann was one of Hollywood's great actresses that was lost to us far too soon. We love you Annie!!

ann sheridan was a beautiful fine actress was also a popular sex symbol of the world war II era. among her films are "angels with dirty faces", "city for conquest", "torrid zone", "kings row", "they drive by night", "juke girl", "nora prentiss", "the unfaithful" and "i was a male war bride". she co-starred with james cagney, john garfield, george raft and humphrey bogart. she was a tough dame with class.

It's a shame that ANN SHERIDAN has never gotten the critical acclaim she MOST CERTAINLY DESERVED. Coul perform any genre. A TRUE TALENT. (BEAUTIFUL). PERSONALITY PLUS.

'Torrid Zone' just ran on TCM 11/4/06 and as I was looking over the net on a Saturday morning, I kept hearing this smart a** female throwing out lines as if they were on fire! I stopped everything to pay attention and glad I did. I had awareness of Ann Sheridan, of course, but not on this level. I believe the film was made in '40 and of course was not her first. She worked hard to get to 'Torrid Zone' and she stole the film from even Cagney, who was tired of the Cagney/O'Brian 'buddy films' (and so was everyone else). In fact, Cagney, according to TCM's info, added a thin moustache to his look to change things just a bit. The story goes the producer Hellenger told him the Execs did not like the look! In typical Cagney no B S he shot back "...and THEY would know... wouldn't they?" Great stuff. Sheridan continually pops up and has almost 'Torrid' lines that never end. She walked the line of almost being over the top with her persona in this film but does not step over that line. With this film, the 'suits' took notice, big time of her and here career kicked into gear. Good for her. I had never seen anyone throw lines out with such pain and truth and SNAPPINESS as she did in 'Torrid Zone'. See this film and any other piece of her work after '40, and you will be in for a treat.

Deserves more rspect

Ann Sheridan was a a very versatile performer and should have a better reputation as a wide-ranging actress. She was best as a wise-cracking dame but did well with more serious roles, like King's Row.

She Had a Lot More Than "Oomph"!

The most underrated actress of the late 1930s and 40s, she was terrific in comedies and dramas, and could even put across a song when necessary. She had great screen chemistry with everyone from Cagney to Grant, and combined an earthy sexiness with plenty of class. She should have been a much bigger star, but all knowledgeable movie fans have always recognized her talents.
