"I became a success when I was 20. But on 'Moonlighting' Bruce was going through that first success, and I had to pay for it. I've never had a problem standing up for myself, but it was like what Bette Davis says--a man does that and he's admired, a woman does that and she's a bitch." --Cybill Shepherd quoted in Entertainment Weekly, January 20, 1995.

"I'm a very harsh critic of myself. I howl and cry at some of the work I have done in this life. Like recently, a friend gave me a copy of 'The Heartbreak Kid,' a movie I did in the '70s, and I was literally horrified when I sat down to watch it. I mean, back then I could hardly talk! I DID look great, though." --Shepherd quoted in US, June 1995

Shepherd has recorded four jazz albums and has performed as a singer in venues in New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia.

The name "Cybill" is a contraction of her grandfathers' names, Cy and Bill (her name would have been "Cyrus William" had she been a boy).
