John Sharp found incredible success as an accomplished actor, appearing in a variety of films throughout his Hollywood career. Sharp's acting career began mostly with his roles in various films, such as "Your Witness" (1950) with Robert Montgomery, the dramatic adaptation "Bunny Lake Is Missing" (1965) with Keir Dullea and "Misunderstood" (1966). He also appeared in "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter" (1968), the James Mason dramatic adaptation "Spring and Port Wine" (1970) and the biopic drama "Brother Sun, Sister Moon" (1972) with Graham Faulkner. His film career continued throughout the seventies and the eighties in productions like the Topol adaptation "Galileo" (1974), "Barry Lyndon" (1975) with Ryan O'Neal and the Adriano Celentano romantic comedy "Mani di Velluto" (1979). He also appeared in the "The Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu" (1980) film with Peter Sellers. His work around this time also included a part on the TV movie "The Bunker" (CBS, 1980-81).
